Noah only learned about God’s plan to use a flood to destroy humanity just before he entered the ark for the last time. This was the only way for Noah to understand the purpose of building the ark. Despite not knowing God’s intentions, Noah obeyed the command to build the ark without question. This was all part of God’s plan to test Noah’s faith and obedience. The command to build a ship on dry land may have seemed strange to Noah, but he remained faithful and obedient. (Gerhard Von Rad: A Commentary, 119-120)
I learned something new about Noah and his faith. Most Christians know several scriptures about faith. We walk by faith and not by sight. Or we have heard preachers say, “Follow God even though you do not see Him or understand what he is doing.” But concerning Noah, I did not see this point illustrated so clearly in his act of obedience. God often tests our faith through our obedience.
At one point in my life, God directed me to move in a particular direction. However, as I obeyed Him, I was met with a lot of misunderstanding. This is just a part of life. Nonetheless, I am putting my trust in God because I know what He said. At some point in your journey with God, you may find yourself obeying His instructions and moving forward, but others may misunderstand or misinterpret your actions. But that’s okay because your ultimate goal is to please God above all else.
